Jerry Merrill

Jerry Merrill, 73, of Shelbyville, former St. Paul resident, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility.

Born in Connersville on May 29, 1944, he was the son of Delbert Christian Rowe and Ada Ilene (Sasher) Rowe. He was later adopted by Eugene and Della (Kelley) Merrill, who raised him. He married Alice (Mann) Merrill on May 22, 1964, and she preceded him on May 27, 2017.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Jones, of St. Paul, Deborah Ogle (husband, William D.), of Greensburg, Angela Valenzuela, of Texas, Jeanie Merrill, of Shelbyville, and Deanna Palmer, of St. Paul; sons, Jerry Merrill Jr., of Shelbyville, Douglas Merrill (fiancée, Carolyn), of Homer, and David Merrill, of Waldron; sisters, Barb Smith and Jane Ann Bills, both of Connersville; brothers, Odie Comstock, of Indianapolis, and Ron Comstock of Marietta; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, several brothers and sisters, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Mr. Merrill lived in this area for most of his lifetime, and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1963.

He worked at various jobs for a number of years including CertainTeed/Knauf, was a bus driver for Southwestern Elementary, had been a janitor at Flat Rock and Southwestern Elementaries.

He had been a volunteer firefighter in Ingram, Texas, Flat Rock and St. Paul for several years.

He had attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Perry Cook officiating.

Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Jerry Merrill Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
