Teenager dies in crash

By ROSS FLINT - rflint@shelbynews.com

A single-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a teenager and injuries to a woman and a baby Thursday morning.

First responders were dispatched to U.S. 52 and River Road at 11:06 a.m., where they found the driver, a 19-year old female, deceased at the scene. A 40-year female passenger was ejected from a 2007 Buick and a child was found sitting in its baby seat.

The female passenger was flown by air to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and the infant was taken to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis by ambulance.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation shows that the vehicle was eastbound when it went off the north side of the road. It then overcorrected, causing it to collide into a guard rail, which then caused it to leave the road. It then came to a stop in a field.

The identities of the driver and passengers were not released by the sheriff’s department on Thursday afternoon.

The Shelbyville Fire Department, Morristown Fire Department, Fountaintown Fire Department, Shelby County Coroner and Ross Wrecker also responded to the scene.
