L. Dean Gahimer

L. Dean Gahimer, 85, of Waldron, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, after a brief illness.

Born March 3, 1932, in Rush County, he was the son of Ercell Gahimer and Ruth (Edwards) Gahimer. He married Beth Kay (Meal) Gahimer, and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include three children, Jeffrey Gahimer (wife, Mary Beth), of Waldron, Sandra Gahimer, of Indianapolis, and Brenda Amshey (husband, Adam), of Lake Odessa, Michigan; two sisters, Nedra Carder (husband, John), of Milroy, and Marlene Kappes (husband, Lawrence), of South Bend; three grandchildren, Leah Gonzales, Ellen Gonzales and Brady Gonzales; and four great-grandchildren, Bella, Vincent, Mason and Maximus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; brothers, Haskell Gahimer, Varl Gahimer and an infant brother; and sister, Alliene Jones.

Mr. Gahimer was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1950.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War, and attained the rank of sergeant.

He was a self-employed general contractor with Dean Gahimer Contracting for many years. He also owned and operated Solitude Antiques for several years.

He was a member of Star Baptist Church and Blue River Valley Antique Power Association.

Dean loved antiques, gardening and vacationing in Holland, Michigan.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Star Baptist Church, 4019 W. 650 N., St. Paul, with Pastor Tom True officiating.

Friends may call at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be at Moscow Cemetery.
