Robert A. Markley

Robert Allen Markley, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at MHP Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Shelbyville, to Maurice Allen Markley and Kathryn (Emerick) Markley Burton. He married Monna Sue (Christian) Markley on March 3, 1956, at Flat Rock Christian Church. They were married for 62 years.

Other survivors include his sons, Mark (wife, Margie) Markley and David (wife, Sue) Markley, all of Shelbyville, and Mike (wife, Stacey) Markley, of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew, Courtney, Brandon, Desirae, Christopher, Joshua, Amanda and Cindy; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Madelyn, Silas, Rhett, Christian, Kaleb, Blaze, Addy, Phoenix, A.J., Zula and Geo; great-great-grandchild, Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Sawyer Markley; grandson, Kyle Markley; sister, Karen Ivie; and brother, Bill Markley.

Mr. Markley was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He worked at Cummins for 38 years and as a driver for Heritage Automotive until two months ago.

Mr. Markley was a member of Little Blue River Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 70 and V.F.W. 60.

Bowling was his favorite leisure activity and he was a member of the 300 club. He always took great pride in his gardening.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Morgan officiating.

Burial will be at Miller Cemetery with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
