Born September 23, 1926 in Westport, she was the daughter of Clement Schwering and Josephine (Schroer) Schwering. She married Arthur Nieman on August 18, 1953, and he preceded her on March 14, 2016.

Survivors include a son, Paul Nieman (wife Mary Jo) of Shelbyville, and daughter, Jean Graham (husband Bill) of New Palestine; 7 grandchildren: Lynn Roberts, Karen Rupp, Megan Nieman, Michael Graham, John Nieman, Jennifer Bello, Peter Nieman; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, sisters Helen Bedel and Marcella Schwering; and brothers Edward and Nick Schwering.

Mrs. Nieman had lived in this area for 60 years, after moving from Westport. She was a home maker/farm wife, and during WWII she worked in a walkie-talkie factory in Indianapolis for a couple of years. She graduated from Lehman Public Schools and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
