Rupert L. Duncan


Rupert L. Duncan, age 96, of Griffith, IN, passed away March 10, 2018.

He is survived by two children, Dean (Kathleen) Duncan and Donna (Bruce) Lord; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline, son, Arthur L. Duncan, granddaughter, Laura Lord, and one brother, Clarence Duncan.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) in Highland, IN. Rev. Tim Powers will officiate. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rupert married Arline before leaving for WW II in 1943 where he was a bronze star recipient after his service was complete. Rupert and Arline moved to Griffith, IN, and began working for American Steel Foundries. He became an active and dedicated member on endless local committees and boards such as Griffith Methodist Church, school board president, little league president and the first president of Lake County Convention and Tourist Bureau. His children remember him as a loving family man, who most importantly centered his entire life around his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
