Rector "Sonny" Gentory, Jr.

Rector "Sonny" Gentory, Jr., 81, of Morristown, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at Hancock Regional Hospital.

Born in Delight, Arkansas, on Oct. 6, 1936, he was the son of Rector Gentry and Willie (Adcox) Hawley. He married Peggy (Coots) Gentory on March 17,1956, and she survives.

Survivors include children, Sharon (husband, Mike) Diewart, of Morristown, Sheila Gentory, of Morristown, Ronald (wife, Beth) Gentory, of New Salisbury, Robbie (wife, Loretta) Gentory, of Morristown, Carol (husband, Steve) Hook, of Morristown, and Crystal (husband, David) Stover, of Morristown; brother, Rick Hawley, of Arkansas; sister, Patricia Ann (husband, Steve) Leathers, of Arkansas; brother-in-law, Charlie Coots; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Leathers, Marilyn Brown and Jean Sullivan; brother-in-law, Henry Coots; and sisters-in-law, Sue Stafford and Juanita Coots.

Mr. Gentory had lived in this area for 44 years.

He worked for Wheeler Corp. as a supervisor for 38 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the Shelby County Sportsman Club.

Sonny enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and working in his yard. He loved his family and grandchildren and was extremely proud of them.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hanover Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Shelby County, in care of the funeral home.
