Shelbyville tennis regroups with win over Columbus East

After a 5-0 loss to Triton Central on Monday, the Shelbyville tennis team regrouped and defeated Columbus East 3-2 on Tuesday.

Daniela Joseph (No. 1 singles), Grace Coomes (No. 3 singles) and Addison Mummert and McKenzie McKay (No. 2 doubles) all won in three sets.

Shelbyville is now 1-1.

Tigers fall to New Palestine

The New Palestine tennis team defeated Triton Central 3-2 on Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles, Hannah Duncan (TC) defeated Megan Long 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Ivey Simmons defeated Rose Wilfong (TC) at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Abi Eck earned a win for the Tigers by topping Caylie Almond 6-4, 7-6 (5).

In doubles play, Josee King and Claire Cherry defeated Maya Chandler and Rylie Stephens (TC) 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1.

With the match tied at 2-2, Sheridan Schrowe and Ashley Truman defeated Amelia Hough and Colleen Sanders (TC) 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (3) in a close battle at No. 2.

Columbus East gets by Shelbyville

The Shelbyville baseball team was defeated by Columbus East on Tuesday, 9-1.

The Golden Bears finished with two hits and two errors in the loss. The team allowed six runs in the second inning.

Cory Taylor finished with an RBI, while Eadin Balting and Connor Beagle knocked the lone hits for SHS.

Shelbyville hosts Columbus North today and travels to HHC foe Mt. Vernon Friday for a doubleheader.

Tigers edged by Heritage Christian

The Triton Central baseball team fell to Heritage Christian on Tuesday, 5-3.

Colton Brown and Hayden and Keaton Kermode scored runs for the Tigers. All three, plus Matt Guhl and Daniel Peterson, registered a hit in the loss. Brown had a double and K. Kermode hit a home run.

Spartans edged by Twisters

The Southwestern baseball team fell to Oldenburg on Tuesday, 12-9.

The Spartans scored seven runs betweeen the third and fourth innings after trailing 8-0. However, the team could not plate any runs in the final two stanzas.

Ross McNeely was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases to lead the SW offense. Ethan Wendling had a single, which scored two, while Christian DeArmitt did the same.

Austin Blocher had a RBI single and Anthony Atwood had a double.

Atwood had three strikeouts on the mound.

Southwestern plays at Waldron today and hosts the Mohawks Friday.

TC softball handles South Decatur

The Triton Central softball team defeated South Decatur on Tuesday, 16-1.

The team finished with 11 hits. Katie Cook led the effort with three base knocks -- one being a home run. Haley Schneider had a hit and scored twice.

Elizabet Mukka earned the win on the mound. She finished with four strikeouts.

Morristown blanks Irvington Prep

The Morristown softball team earned a 9-0 win over Irvington Prep on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets are now 2-2 on the season. Morristown scored two in the first, one in the third and six in the fourth en route to the victory.

Jennifer Whitney picked up the win in the circle for the Yellow Jackets. She went the distance allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out nine.

Shade Bridgford led the MT offense with a pair of doubles, a single, three runs scored and one RBI. Lily Baker added four RBIs on a sacrifice fly and a three-run double.

Waldron falls to Oldenburg

The Waldron softball team fell to Oldenburg 16-0 Tuesday night.

Molly Benson had a single and McKeann Allen added a double in the loss. Kearston Whitten finished with four strikeouts.
