John West

John Thomas West, 95, of Indianapolis, died peacefully on April 10, 2018, at Rosegate Village in Indianapolis.

Born November 2, 1922, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Tinnie West and Emma (Wood) West.

He grew up in the Walkerville neighborhood and attended Shelbyville High School.

Mr. West was a WWII US Navy veteran, serving on the Escort Carrier USS Coral Sea/Anzio in the Pacific Theatre. Upon returning from the war, he married Joan (Runnebohm) West and they had 2 children, Debra Ann Sehr (husband Jeffrey) and Daniel Gregory West.

He worked for Chrysler Corporation for 29 years and retired to Bradenton, Florida, in 1986.

He is survived by his spouse, Joan, his children and granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Pettit (husband Brian). He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Ann Cover.

John loved cars, motorcycles, flying radio-controlled airplanes and listening to big band music.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Graveside military honors will be conducted by a local veterans organization. No calling hours will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Honor Flight Program in care of the funeral home.
