Shelbyville golf competes at HHC

GREENFIELD — The Shelbyville golf team competed in the annual Hoosier Heritage Conference meet Saturday at Hawk’s Tail Golf Club The team finished eighth overall. New Castle claimed the HHC championship in a tight match.

Eleven strokes separated the top six positions as the Trojans shot a 330 to beat Mt. Vernon by two and Yorktown by four. Pendleton Heights shot a 337 for fourth and New Palestine was fifth with a 338. Delta was sixth with a 341. Greenfield-Central (354) and Shelbyville (368) were seventh and eighth, respectively.

The Golden Bears were led by Evan Phares, who finished with a round of 87. He shot a 44 on the front nine. Bryce Asher was not far behind with a 91.

Justin Glessner and Brayden McLane each shot 95’s and Noah Dusenbery finished with a 118 to pace Shelbyville.

New Castle’s Trevor Turner was the individual HHC champion with a 75. New Castle, which won its third title in four years, had two All-HHC performers as Spencer Stewart tied for fifth with an 80.

Delta’s Tyler Jobe was the HHC runner-up with a 76. Pendleton Heights’ Austin Davis was third with a 78, while New Palestine’s Elijah Domogala fourth with a 79. Stewart and Mt. Vernon’s John Huser each shot an 80. Four players tied for seventh with 81’s.
