Splash pad up and running

By JOHN WALKER - jwalker@shelbynews.com

Last minute repairs are done and the Shelbyville Parks & Recreation Department says the splash pad at Blue River Memorial Park is now working.

Problems with the water return mechanism caused the spray to shut down unexpectedly.

The parks department had to order a check valve that was installed late Friday afternoon just in time for the holiday weekend.

Visitors to Blue River Memorial Park from Shelbyville should not try to go to the park by way of Vine Street to Morris Avenue.

The Walkerville Bridge, which spans the Little Blue River near Forest Hill Cemetery at the intersection of Vine and Morris, is closed for repairs.

Vehicles must go out East State Road 44 to Lee Boulevard near the I-74 interchange, turn onto Lee Boulevard and go past Walmart to reach the park.

If splashing in deeper water is appealing, the Meridian Park Family Aquatic Center, at 101 McKinley St., is scheduled to open for the season at noon Sunday.
