CARMEL — Triton Central sophomore Jackson Seagrave began his state finals journey Tuesday at Prairie View Golf Club in cloudy but calm conditions.

Teeing off at 9:48 a.m with a two-day, 36-hole adventure in front of him., Seagrave started the front nine “up and down”, according to TC head coach Karen O’Neill.

He fired a 42 on the first nine holes on a very long Prairie View course, which stretches approximately 7,000 yards. A 41 on the back nine helped Seagrave finish with an 83, which put him tied for 62nd overall (as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday).

“He had pars then a double (bogey) on the front,” O’Neill said. “It was a good round but no breaks at all to score well. It was super wet today. He hit well and his short game was fine, just inches from perfect in trying to get up and down.”

The sophomore tallied a birdie on hole No. 12, a par 3, and finished with eight pars.

Seagrave shot a career-best 75 at the Muncie Central Regional to advance to state. At the sectional, he finished with a round of 84. His previous season-best was a 77 at the West Lafayette Invitational.
