Shelby Police investigating shooting at Loper Commons

Shelbyville police are investigating two incidents at Loper Commons on Monday night, including a shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

Police responded to MHP Medical Center and met with Daniel Vasquez, who told them he had been shot in the leg by a man who was wearing a black ski mask.

Vasquez, who said he was leaving the parking lot, told Shelbyville police the masked man demanded his wallet. When Vasquez said he went to leave, the man shot him in the leg.

The incident occurred at least an hour before Vasquez reported it to the hospital, according to Lt. Mike Turner of the Shelbyville Police Department.

Another incident of a home invasion also occurred at Loper Commons on Monday night. Police are investigating the two as unrelated incidents.

Police are investigating and do not believe the public is in danger.
