Alcy Ward

Alcy Scott "Scottie" Ward, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away June 30, 2018, at Homeview Health & Rehab Center in Franklin.

Born February 27, 1940, in Madison, Virginia, he was the son of Alcy "Dick" Ward and Irene (Simms) Ward. He married Geraldine "Gerri" (Turner) Ward on November 18, 1960, and she survives.

Other survivors include 3 children: Karen Ward of Hampton, Va., Michael Ward of Columbus, Ohio, and Gary Ward of Shelbyville; brother James Ward (wife Nana) of Madison, Va.; 4 sisters: Margaret Ward of Madison, Va., Olivia Ward of Rochester, N.Y., Elizabeth Strachan of Rochester, N.Y., and Annie White of Madison, Va.; 5 grandchildren: Keri Hughes, Jade Banks, Courtney Ward, Paige Ward, and Jordan Ward; and one great-grandchild, Zikhaia Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph Ward.

Mr. Ward had lived in Shelbyville since 1983 after moving from Madison, Va. He had been employed as a supervisor with Culpeper Wood Preservers for 36 years, retiring in 2009. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Madison, Va., and attended Big Flatrock Christian Church locally.  

Scottie enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.  

Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Madison, Va. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, and burial will be in Gordon Beasley Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
