Man wanted after attempted child abduction

The Shelbyville Police Department is asking for the community’s help after a man attempted to abduct a child Tuesday night.

According to police, a white male with a dark tan who was described as his early to mid-30s ran up to a stroller and tried to take a child in it who was with its mother. The mother had stopped to pick up a toy that the child had dropped in the Dollar General Store on Miller Avenue in Shelbyville when the man ran up.

The mother shoved the man away and fled with her child. She safely returned home. The man also left the scene.

The man, who police said is between 5-foot-10 inches and 6 feet tall, never said anything during the incident.

He is described as a fit 250 pounds with black hair that is trimmed about one inch with a black beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a gray shirt and white ball cap and his hair was sticking out of the back.

He was wearing khaki shorts that were not cargo style and black tennis shoes, according to police.

Shelbyville police ask that the public keep an eye out for a man of that description, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the police at 317-392-5106.
