MORRISTOWN — The Southwestern and Triton Central tennis teams were happy to see one another on opposite sides of the bracket in this year’s Shelby County Tournament.

Last season at county, the Tigers beat the Spartans 3-2 en route to the title. Earlier this season, Southwestern (8-1) used a 3-2 victory over Triton Central to earn revenge.

The two teams met for the county championship Tuesday after advancing past their respective semifinals matches. Check Thursday’s TSN for coverage of the county championship.

On Monday, the Spartans beat Morristown 5-0 and Triton Central, which moved to 4-6, topped Waldron 4-1.

Southwestern, which has a lone loss to Knightstown this season, made quick work of the Yellow Jackets, who were without a No. 3 singles player.

At No. 1 singles, Mick Abbott beat Morristown’s Logan Theobald 6-0, 6-0, while Nick Robinson edged Bryce Kirstein 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in the most competitive match of the night at No. 2 singles. Robinson fell behind early in the first set, 1-4, but regained momentum after a comeback.

In doubles play, SW’s Ryan Brockman and Anthony Atwood handled Tony Connor and Jacob Wood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Brockman and Atwood have just one loss this season.

At No. 2 doubles, Connor Rowe and Decklan Pappano topped Noah Klinger and Jerry Riley 6-0, 6-1 to complete the 5-0 victory.

For Triton Central Monday, Luke Sanders defeated Parker Huffman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Jordan Bradman beat Shawn Cole 6-2, 6-0 for another point for TC. Caleb Anderson completed the singles sweep over Bryce Flippen 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

Sanders played No. 2 singles last season while Brandman played No. 3. The pair gives the Tigers an experienced duo at the top of their lineup.

In doubles play at No. 1, Dalen Williams and Ian Carter beat Ryan Shipley and Blake Anderson 6-4, 6-4 for the lone win for Waldron. TC’s Cameron Elder and Alex Crouse won their No. 2 doubles match over Cody Beal and Tyler Bowlby 6-0, 6-4.
