Reinhart represents Golden Bears

The Hoosier Heritage Conference released its weekly report for volleyball and soccer on Tuesday.

Shelbyville sophomore libero Audrey Reinhart is third in the HHC in digs per set (4.3), representing the Golden Bears in the volleyball report.

Volleyball Notes

New Castle and Yorktown have emerged as co-leaders after victories last week, headed into a busy week of conference play with six matches.

HHC teams are 80-24 against non-league foes.

Pendleton Heights won the Madison County Tournament over the weekend, going 5-0. Three other teams brought home hardware Saturday. New Palestine won the Greenwood Invitational. Shelbyville and New Castle won their own tournaments. Shelbyville’s victory gave the Golden Bears their first record above .500 since 2015. Grace Laker had 29 kills and Reinhart had 69 digs in Shelbyville's 4-1 week.

Players of the Week

Kylie Murr, Yorktown

Murr had 42 digs in two matches, including 22 in a three-set victory over Mt. Vernon.

Gracie King, Pendleton Heights

King had 40 kills – including 13 against Frankton – leading the Arabians to their first Madison County title since 2005. She also had two other 10-kill matches in a 5-0 week.

Soccer Notes

Last week featured five HHC boys games, with Greenfield-Central moving into first place with its 1-0 win over Mt. Vernon Thursday. Zack Bell scored the game’s lone goal. Earlier in the week, G-C beat Delta 11-0, with Bell tallying three goals and two assists.

Also Tuesday, Mt. Vernon beat Yorktown 7-0, with Tylin Broaders scoring twice and Logan Angelopulos tallying a goal and three assists.

Shelbyville won its conference opener Thursday, beating New Palestine 2-0 behind a goal and an assist each from Trae Hassebroek and Evan White.

Saturday’s Shelbyville at Yorktown game will be played Sept. 24.

Players of the Week

Girls: Cleo Mills, Mt. Vernon

Mills had a hat trick in the Marauders’ 5-0 shutout of New Palestine Wednesday, then followed with four goals against Yorktown Saturday.

Boys: Abe Buescher, Greenfield-C.

Buescher made 13 saves in the Cougars’ 1-0 shutout of Mt. Vernon and five in a shutout of Delta.
