Rex Simpson

Rex E. Simpson, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at his residence.

Born June 26, 1932, in Marion County, he was the son of Dorothy Lucille Simpson and was raised by his stepfather, Leroy Kelly. He married Marilyn (Young) Simpson on Nov. 17, 1951, and she preceded him on Jan. 15, 1996.

Survivors include 3 children, David Simpson (wife Staci) of Indianapolis, Cindy Jeffries (husband Bobby) of Bronston, Kentucky, and Ty Simpson (wife Twanna) of Shelbyville; a sister, Ruby Metz (husband Ken) of Shelbyville; 7 grandchildren, Christina, Cory, Jessica, Ty, Jake, Nick, and Jennni; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, stepfather, and brother, Duane Leonard.

Mr. Simpson had lived in this area his entire lifetime, and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1950. He was employed by RCA of Indianapolis in the maintenance department for 38 years.

He served in the Indiana National Guard for 20 years, achieving the rank of Captain. Rex enjoyed working with his hands, fixing and repairing things, and tinkering. He loved spending time with his family.
