Phillip Cherry


Phillip Raymond “Butch” Cherry, 68, of New Palestine passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at his residence.

He was born March 29, 1950, in Indianapolis, the son of Claude and Mary (Crane) Cherry. On Dec. 10, 1976, he married Sharon Mohr, and she survives.

In addition to Sharon, Butch is survived by his son, Gary Cherry and wife, Nannie, of Loudon, Tennessee; several brothers and sisters; grandsons, Joe Belcher and Billy Belcher, both of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Butch graduated from Triton Central High School in 1968.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during Vietnam.

Butch was a member of New Life United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

He was formerly a cabinet maker and custodian at Triton Central High School.

Butch enjoyed fishing.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at New Life United Methodist Church, 6145 N 400 W, Fairland.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with military rites conducted by the local military committee.

Interment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
