Smash a Car event to help Waldron Boys and Girls Club

By ROSS FLINT - rflint@shelbynews.com

Need to let out some stress this coming weekend?

The Waldron Boys and Girls Club may have a solution for you.

The club, now in its second year, is inviting the community to an event Saturday that benefits both itself and the Waldron Little League.

A car donated by Doug Burns, a member of the Infamous Few, will be smashed by those willing to donate to the club. The price for hitting the car one time is $5 while the price for three hits is $10.

Participants will be required to wear gloves and goggles and caution tape will be placed around the car for safety purposes, Amber Harvey, who runs the Waldron location, said in an email.

There are no age limits but smaller hammers will be available for children.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and the car will be near the concession stands next to the elementary school.

The concession stands will be open and there will be a game zone for children, she said.

The Smash a Car event is teaming up with the little league hoping to raise funds for both.

Among the fun activities will be a hot dog eating contest, a home run derby and a co-ed benefit baseball tournament, hosted by the Waldron Little League.

Harvey said they anticipate more than 200 people attending and 60 vendors have signed up.

Amazon John will also be performing a show.

The Waldron Boys and Girls Club is also planning on having a chill cook off soon, Harvey said, and they will be starting personalized Christmas ornaments after fall break as a fundraiser. She added that the club has sent out letters to local businesses in hopes of getting sponsors or grants.
