Shelbyville graduate helps IU East tennis start 5-1

Shelbyville graduate Bri Ayres returns a ball for the IU East tennis team this season. Ayres and IU East are currently 5-1.

Bri Ayres, a Shelbyville graduate, had a win at No. 6 singles for the IU East tennis team on Oct. 6. It served as the deciding point against Cedarville University. Ayres finished with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. As a team, the IU East women are 5-1 on the season.

Daniela Joseph

Joseph, a Shelbyville graduate, finished 51st overall for the Earlham girls’ golf team at the Wooster Weiskopf Invite on Oct. 7. Joseph’s two-day score at the invite was 225 for the 36-hole tournament. Overall, the team finished third. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship will be hosted by Earlham on Oct. 13-14.

Bailey Chandler

Chandler, a Triton Central graduate, finished with 12 assists and five digs for the Eastern Illinois volleyball team on Oct. 6 in their 3-0 loss to Murray State. The Panthers (6-15) will next travel to Jacksonville on Oct. 12.

Samantha Dewey

Dewey, a Triton Central graduate, scored the game-winning penalty kick in the fourth minute of a double overtime game for the Xavier girls’ soccer team on Oct. 7 against DePaul. The 3-2 win over DePaul was Xavier’s first time in school history defeating them in women’s soccer.

Bryan Beauchamp

Beauchamp, a Triton Central graduate, finished with five tackles for North Central University in the team’s 48-10 win over Augustana on Oct. 6.

Carson Macklin

Macklin, a Shelbyville graduate, played 90 minutes for the Defiance University mens’ soccer team on Oct. 6 in a 3-0 loss to Rose-Hulman. The team will next take on Anderson on Oct. 10.

Alexa Schofner

Schofner, a Southwestern graduate, earned a 9-7 win for the Franklin College tennis team on Oct. 7 with doubles partner Holyn Eldridge. Franklin defeated Rose-Hulman 6-3 and returns home on Saturday Oct. 13 as they welcome Earlham College.

Ally Williams

Williams, a Triton Central graduate, finished with two assists and 10 digs for the Hanover College volleyball team on Oct. 8 in the team’s 3-0 win against Spalding. Currently 9-10 on the year, the team will next face off against Mt. St. Joseph on Oct. 10.

Ty Johnson

Johnson, a Shelbyville graduate, finished with five punts for the Depauw football team on Oct. 6 in their 28-26 win over Oberlin. Johnson finished with 181 punting yards, averaging 36.2 per kick – two of which landed inside the 20.

AJ Lux

Lux, a former Golden Bear, finished with 12 kills for the East Tennessee State volleyball team on Oct. 6 in a 3-1 victory over Furman. East Tennessee is currently on a four-game win streak and will next travel to Mercer on Oct. 12.

Dillon Nelson

Nelson, a Triton Central graduate, finished with an interception return of 40 yards and a touchdown for Manchester University’s football team on Oct. 6. Manchester fell to Mt. St. Joseph, 49-27.

Jacob Cooper and Austin Coughlin

Both Triton Central graduates finished with tackles for Manchester University’s football team in the 49-27 loss.

Cooper finished with three solo tackles as well as one assisted, while Coughlin finished with three solo tackles. The team will next take on Bluffton on Oct. 13.
