Information meeting set for students interested in Sister City trip

STAFF REPORT

Students in grades 7-12 that are interested in visiting Shelbyville’s sister city in Japan, should contact the Shelby County International Relations Council.

The 30-year strong sister city relationship with Shizuoka City/Kambara has included several international trips for Shelbyville students to Japan – and vice versa.

The Shelby County International Relations Council (SCIRC) will select several students from Shelby County to represent the 2019 delegation. An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 44 W. Washington St. in Shelbyville, for anyone interested in learning about the Sister City program.

A link to the 2019 SCIRC Student Packet can be found on the City of Shelbyville’s website at www.cityofshelbyvillein.com under “Japan Sister City.”

Questions can be directed to Linda Sanders at 317-753-4319 or s_linda@sbcglobal.net, or to the Mayor’s office at 317-398-6624.

The 2019 student trip is planned for early June and will include approximately 5-7 days in Shizuoka City/Kambara as a home-stay experience as well as a few days in Tokyo.
