The Class A No. 11-ranked Waldron girls’ basketball team beat No. 8 Jac-Cen-Del on the road Tuesday in a rematch of last season’s sectional final.

The Mohawks trailed 11-2 early but finally found rhythm in a 49-36 win. Waldron held the hosts to nine points in the second half.

Senior guard Morgan Wood scored 22 points one day before her birthday to lead the Mohawks (7-2) in the win. She hit four threes after halftime.

Hannah Sullivan added eight points and Bella Larrison finished with six.

Waldron travels to state-ranked Morristown Friday. The Yellow Jackets (7-1) are No. 7 in Class A.

TC edges Whiteland

The Class 2A No. 3 Triton Central girls’ basketball team beat Whiteland at home Tuesday, 61-59.

TC sophomore forward Tenleigh Phelps had an and-one on a layup with 5.9 seconds left in the game to seal the win.

Class 4A Whiteland entered the contest with a 5-4 record. The Tigers are now 9-1.

Phelps led TC with 21 points in the win. Maya Chandler added 17 points and Rylie Stephens finished with 11.

SW handles Knightstown

The Southwestern girls’ basketball team improved to 6-3 with a 54-24 win over Knightstown Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Lexi Wilkins made 5 of 10 shots from distance to lead the Spartans with 19 points. Trinity Tatlock added 10 points and Madison Van Gorden had seven points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

SW hosts Triton Central Saturday.

SHS falls at home

The Shelbyville girls’ basketball team fell at home Tuesday to New Palestine in its HHC opener. The Dragons won 85-49.

NP led 27-10 after the first quarter en route to the win.

The Golden Bears return to action at New Castle Friday.

TC wrestlers beat Eastern Hancock

The Triton Central wrestling team beat Eastern Hancock on Tuesday, 42-26.

Caden Alfrey (113), Landen Gaddy (120), Colton Skaggs (132), Carson Alfrey (138), Josh Thacker (145), Tristan Gibbons (160), Jon Riggins (170), Matt Guhl (182) and Ethan McGivern (195) all won their matches.

SHS tops Whiteland

The Shelbyville wrestling team beat Whiteland on Tuesday, 45-24.

Dillon Berry (113) won by pin in the first period, while Micah Lee (126) won his match 13-0. Chayce Collier (132) won by pin. At 138, Jordan Vinson also won his match by pin. At 145, Elijah Sims won 11-6, while Fernando Dawe won by pin at 170. Dallas Karnes won at the heavyweight position by pin, as well.
