The final First Friday event of 2018 is merely a prelude to Saturday’s Mistletoe Market which will liven up downtown Shelbyville with more holiday spirit.

With the holiday parade where Santa makes his first appearance in Shelbyville now three weeks in the past, Brandy Coomes, executive director of Mainstreet Shelbyville, wanted another downtown event to celebrate the holiday season.

So Mainstreet Shelbyville is taking its traditional farmers’ holiday market to a spirited new level.

“I felt like our market needed to be bigger and better,” said Coomes. “It needed a little more holiday cheer.”

The final First Friday is shopping based. Downtown stores will have promotions and events in their own stores. There will not be any formal events on the Public Square – until Saturday.

Saturday’s Mistletoe Market will include over 20 vendors to shop, food vendors, adult drinks, live reindeer, carriage rides, kids games, cookie decorating and, of course, Santa.

“I really wanted to kick it up a notch,” said Coomes, who remarked that the list of things going on sounded like a whole lot of activity once she said it out loud.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. downtown with artisans and vendors offering unique items.

“The vendors will be in the northwest quadrant,” said Coomes. “The carriage rides will be down the first block of West Washington St.”

Carriage rides are $10.

Admission to the event is free.
