Woman dies in I-74 accident early Wednesday morning

By ROSS FLINT - rflint@shelbynews.com

A female driver died as a result of an accident on Interstate 74 East early Wednesday morning.

The identity of the woman was not released because a positive identification had not been made as of 2 p.m.

First responders found the woman deceased in her vehicle upon arriving at the scene at 5:32 a.m.

After crossing a bridge, an eastbound passenger car spun out of control and collided with a median cable barrier. A second passenger car that was also eastbound also spun out of control and collided with the guard rail and cable barrier.

It then continued into a semi tractor’s path. The semi tractor was hauling a loaded tanker at the time.

The semi tractor and car collided before coming to rest on the right shoulder, according to Major Louie Koch of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. The accident was weather related because the road was slick and snow was falling at the time.
