Shelby County Tournament draw released

The draw for the upcoming Shelby County Tournament was released on Thursday. The Morristown Yellow Jackets will host this year's event (Jan. 3-5), which is in its 100th running on the boys' side. The girls' tournament is in its 43rd year. 

On Jan. 3 in the first game, the Class A No. 7 Morristown girls' basketball team (7-1) will open against Southwestern (6-3). The teams have not played this season.

In the second game that evening, Class A No. 11 Waldron (7-2) and Class 2A No. 3 Triton Central (9-1) will meet. TC beat Waldron by 15 points last Friday. The winners will play on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. for the title. Last season, the Tigers won the Shelby County Tournament over the Mohawks, 52-24.  

On Jan. 4, the Class A No. 7 Morristown boys' basketball team (3-1) will play Waldron (1-3) in the first game. Southwestern (1-2) and Triton Central (2-2) are set to meet in Game 2. The winners will play after the girls' championship on Jan. 5. Last season, Morristown won the tournament over Southwestern, 65-45. 

This season, Morristown has a win over Triton Central, 64-37. The Yellow Jackets and Mohawks meet today in a varsity doubleheader. Triton Central beat Southwestern last weekend, 72-62.
