Henry Mitchko


Henry Burgess Mitchko, 90, of Acton, passed away peacefully with family on Jan. 2, 2019, at SouthPointe Healthcare Center in Indianapolis.

Born to Frank and Marie Mitchko on Sept. 5, 1928, in Hamden, Ohio, he was the youngest of three children. His family moved to Pleasant View in 1932. He graduated from Moral High School in 1946.

Henry married Sue Brattain (Mitchko) on July 2, 1954. Sue preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2013.

Survivors include four children, Curtis (wife, Kim) Mitchko of Washington, David (wife, Joyce) Mitchko of Pleasant View, Karen Mitchko of Acton, and Martha Martin of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Keith (Chris Rahman) Mitchko, Cameron Mitchko, Kendall Mitchko, Jenni (husband, Kevin) Trappe, Phillip (wife, Elizabeth) Mitchko, Katie (husband, Tom) Bazzano, Rebekah Martin and Savannah Martin; great-grandchildren, Kerrigan Trappe, Cayden Mitchko, Luke Trappe, Kyra Mitchko, Avery Mitchko, and Patton Mitchko.

Henry was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Chrysler Indianapolis for eight years. Henry spent most of his life as a farmer in Shelby, Marion, and Johnson counties. Henry loved to fish, enjoyed taking car rides in the country, and watching NASCAR racing. He cherished time with family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Lions Club, 5242 W. US 52 in New Palestine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Henry to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
