Dorothy Banta


Dorothy L. Banta, 88, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at her residence.

She was born April 14, 1930, in Shelbyville, to Lloyd C. and Thelma E. (Macy) Larkey.

Dorothy married Dale Banta on Oct. 26, 1947, and he survives. They enjoyed 71 years of married life together.

Mrs. Banta is also survived by her daughters, Jeana Lynn Nordstrom of Naples, Fla., and Sherri (John) Cottrill, of Columbus, Ind.; her son, Dale Keith (Nancy) Banta, of Hope, Ind.; sisters, Rosemary Griffey, Elizabeth Larkey, Shirley Evans, Ruth (Morris) Cherry, and Patti (Larry) Green; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son and daughter; sister, Nancy Larkey; and great-great-grandson.

Mrs. Banta attended Shelby High School. She was retired from Cummins-Plant. She was a member of the Hanover Beach Boat Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and reading her books. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Reverend Harvey Weaver officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Funeral Directors, Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve the Banta family.
