Prep Report: Shelbyville earns win at home

Shelbyville’s Luke Asher splits two defenders on Tuesday at home against Columbus East. The Golden Bears won 77-60.

The Shelbyville boys’ basketball team picked up another win on Tuesday at home. The Golden Bears beat potential sectional foe Columbus East, 77-60.

The win is Shelbyville’s fourth in a row in the series.

Senior guard Zach Kuhn led the Golden Bears with 26 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals. Junior forward Luke Asher added 21 points in the win.

SHS is now 5-7 overall. The team hosts Hauser on Friday before a trip to Pendleton Heights on Saturday.

In the junior varsity game, Layton Stieneker hit a game-winning shot from half court to give the Golden Bears the win. Players stormed the floor after the shot went through the basket.

Tigers slay Dragons

The Triton Central girls’ basketball team improved to 17-1 on Tuesday with a 57-49 win over a tough New Palestine squad, which also entered the game with a 16-1 record.

Visiting New Pal led 21-13 after one quarter of play but could not overcome a spirited comeback from the Tigers, who took a 25-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. TC, now on a 10-game win streak, gained control at the end of the third quarter, 42-37, and rolled in the fourth to seal the win.

Triton Central, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, has not lost a game since Nov. 21. The team fell to Central Noble, 51-45, in its only loss of the season.

TC plays again Jan. 15 at home against Covenant Christian.

SHS travels to Rushville

The Shelbyville girls’ basketball team lost at Rushville on Tuesday, 54-21.

SHS is now 3-15 this season.

The Golden Bears play again on Saturday at home against Mt. Vernon.

Waldron falls on road

The Class A No. 9 Waldron girls’ basketball team fell on the road to No. 11 Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday, 52-49.

The Mohawks are now 10-6 this season. Trinity Lutheran is 13-5.

Waldron returns to action today at South Decatur.

Yellow Jackets drop road game

The Morristown girls’ basketball team dropped a game on the road Tuesday to North Decatur, 44-36.

The Yellow Jackets are 12-7 this season. The team plays again Saturday at home against Edinburgh.

Morristown gymnastics begins season

The Morristown gymnastics team started its season on Tuesday at Roncalli.

Roncalli took first with a 96.125, Martinsville was second with a 91.55, Morristown was third with a 75.525 and Decatur Central was fourth with a 28.30.

Morristown’s Greenley Goedde was third overall on the bars (7.6), fifth on beam (7.6) and sixth on the floor exercise (7.625). Her all-around score of 30.725 was good enough for fourth out of all participants.
