Leising promotes scholarship opportunities

Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) encourages those interested in continuing their education at a college or university to look into several financial aid programs that are available.

Frank O'Bannon Grant

To honor the life and legacy of former governor Frank O'Bannon, the Frank O'Bannon Grant awards Indiana students with financial support to attend public, private and proprietary postsecondary institutions.

To qualify, students must be an Indiana resident by Dec. 31 the year before they apply, hold a high school diploma or GED, attend or plan to attend an eligible postsecondary institution, be enrolled or plan to enroll in a course that leads to an associate or bachelor's degree or certificate, and be a full-time student or plan to enroll as a full-time student.

to apply, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which measures their financial aid eligibility. Students and their parents can visit www.StudentAid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa, where they can create a Federal Student Aid ID and submit an application. Applications must be submitted by April 15 prior to the academic year that they plan to enroll.

21st Century Scholars Program

The 21st Century Scholars Program provides students up to four years of undergraduate tuition at any participating public college or university in Indiana.

Eligible students must be an Indiana resident, enrolled in the seventh or eighth grade at a public or private Indiana school and be a member of a family that meets the income eligibility guidelines. For example, if a student is a member of a family of four, the family's annual income by be $46,435 or below.

Parents can visit www.ScholarTrack.IN.gov to create a ScholarTrack account and submit an application for their student. Applications must be submitted by June 30 of the student's eighth-grade year.
