Spring clean up starts April 1

STAFF REPORT

The City of Shelbyville will administer “Spring Clean Up Week” beginning April 1.

The Street Department will pick up large items such as furniture, household trash, appliances (without freon), wood, metal and more during normal trash collection days through April 5.

Anything with freon in it, such as refrigerators or air conditioners must be tagged as having had the freon and the compressor removed before it can be collected.

Any item with tires or remodeling debris such as roofing shingles and concrete also will not be collected.

The Street Department also will not collect televisions or computers, however, these items can be dropped off at the Street Department, 605 Hale Road, at no charge throughout the year if you are a city resident.

No items with live bed bugs will be collected.

No more than a regular-size truck load amount will be collected – no more than approximately an 8x6 section not being taller than four feet. Crews will not stay at one stop for more than 10 minutes. If a stop load size is in question, crews will defer to the supervisor, and any amount that is more than the guidelines for collection will be left and will be the responsibility of the property owner to remove.

Everything must be neatly piled and separated by material types such as wood, metal, general trash, furniture, etc.

All items need to be ready for collection at 7 a.m. on your normal collection day. There will be no recycling collection during this week. Recycling will be collected the following week.

For more information, contact a Street Department representative at 317-392-5169.
