Commissioners address tax refund for CVS

By ROSS FLINT - rflint@shelbynews.com

A company in Shelbyville will be receiving a hefty tax refund in the coming years after receiving an approval by a 2-0 vote from the Shelby County Commissioners.

CVS will receive $294,934.66 in refunds that will be distributed over the next five years after Commissioners Kevin Nigh and Chris Ross approved during Monday’s meeting. Commissioner Don Parker was unable to attend.

The refund, which covers three years from 2011 to 2013 after CVS filed an appeal with the state, will be distributed over that time courtesy of a new law that states tax refunds over $100,000 can be distributed over five years so that it does not affect all county government entities at once.

The county will write checks as refunds that will apply to CVS’ tax bills and will not go directly back to the company.

In other business, the commissioners approved an ordinance to add a stop sign coming from 400 West at the intersection of County Road 775 South. There will also be a stop sign added at a private road at that intersection.
