Joe Giden


Joe Louis Giden, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019, at MHP Medical Center.

Born Aug. 20, 1938, in Wynnburg, Tennessee, he was the son of Buster and Julia (Thompson) Giden. He married Mildred (Magerle) and she preceded him on March 11, 2014.

Survivors include son, Montel Giden of Shelbyville; daughters, Para Jones of Indianapolis, and Rhonda Robinson of Shelbyville; brothers, Willie Dee Giden (wife, Jackie) of Indianapolis, and Lathin Giden (wife, Lucille) of Alexandria, Louisiana; sister, ChiChi Bytheford of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Carroll Jones, Anson Giden, Megan Kangwa, Whitney Hammel, Donte Denton, and Jessman Robinson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Buster and Julia Giden, and a son, Vince Giden.

Joe retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after many years of employment. He had also worked at Cummins and part-time at Thrif-T Mart, and at one time he owned a small convenience store on the corner of Harrison and Broadway Streets in Shelbyville. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and was baptized at an early age at Second Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
