Comedy Club coming to Shelbyville

STAFF REPORT

The owners of Gutty’s Comedy Club have worked out arrangements with Christi’s Off Broadway Theatre to run family-friendly comedy shows every Friday night at the Shelbyville theatre.

“I started Gutty’s on the north side of Chicago with the idea of providing comedy for everyone, shows you can take your family to,” said Steve Rivera, owner of Gutty’s Comedy Club. “The shows we are bringing to town will be rated PG or PG-13 shows that everyone can enjoy.”

The comedy shows fit with the types of productions Christi’s Off Broadway Theatre, 16 S. Tompkins St., has been bringing to its stage since it opened.

“We have made it our focus to put on shows that are fun and full of laughter,” said Tina Frankl, owner of Christi’s Off Broadway Theatre. “Life is too serious for us to fill it with drama and tragedy all the time. That’s why we produce our comedy plays and now stand up comedy shows by partnering with Gutty’s Comedy Club.”

The official start of Gutty’s Comedy Club’s Friday Night Live series is April 19 at 7:30 p.m. The first show will feature comedians Ryan Shipley and Peter Heinz with Dave “The King” Wilson as the headliner.

Every Friday night there will be a comedy show on the stage.

Gutty’s is offering a bonus show for the opening weekend. On April 20, the comedy club is bringing a DVD release show to Shelbyville. Comedian Rick Garrett is releasing his latest DVD, “Straight Outta Cowan.”

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased online at Gutty’sComedyClub.com.
