School board to vote on interim superintendent

By ROSS FLINT - rflint@shelbynews.com

Shelbyville Central Schools will be holding an open meeting this week to vote on an interim superintendent.

The meeting, set for noon Thursday in the conference room of Shelbyville Central Schools, 803 St. Joseph St., in Shelbyville, comes after the school board held a public meeting on Thursday for members of the public to comment.

No comments were made.

The interim superintendent’s name was not released during Thursday’s meeting.

The proposed 1-year employment contract has a basic salary of $121,258.25 with a stipend of $19,000.

It also includes benefits including health insurance and a contribution of 10.5 percent to the Indiana Teachers Retirement Fund.

The interim superintendent will replace Dr. David Adams, who is retiring.

By law, the school board is required to wait seven days from the date of the open meeting before voting.

In other business, the school board approved reconfiguring the elementary schools’ grade levels, changing it from preschool to fifth grade, to kindergarten to fifth grade.

The move came as a result of the Golden Bear Preschool pulling preschool classes out of Coulston, Hendricks and Loper elementary schools. The new Golden Bear Preschool is expected to open in time for the start of the 2019-20 school year.

The Golden Bear Preschool will be listed as preschool to kindergarten because of transitional kindergarten classes.
