YORKTOWN — The best is yet to come for Triton Central freshman Drew Rowen.

A talented young golfer, Rowen, who shot a 33 earlier this season, finished with a round of 78 on Thursday at The Players Club during regional play, ending a fine start to his high school career.

Rowen, who advanced to the Muncie Central Regional after carding a 77 at the Greenfield-Central Sectional, shot a similar score on a long, hot day but will not advance to state, according to TC head coach Karen O’Neill (golfers were still on the course by TSN deadline).

The freshman, who had a standout middle school career, was just one of the talented golfers for Triton Central this season. The Tigers broke multiple school records as TC senior Luke Sanders shot a 30 after breaking the program record twice earlier in the year with two rounds of 33.

Rowen, who tied the school record for seven minutes, shot his 33 on the same day Sanders carded a 30. The team finished with its lowest round ever (142) that day as all four golfers finished with a 40 or below.

Rowen and Sanders also helped the Tigers win the Indiana Crossroads Conference title in May. Rowen, a lefty, was second overall with a 76 and Sanders was fifth with an 82.

Did the new golf facility at the high school make the difference this season? It certainly didn’t hurt.
