An Indianapolis man is in the Shelby County Jail following a robbery that took place at the AT&T store in Shelbyville on Monday.

Amaris N. Jones, 18, was charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, theft, resisting law enforcement and operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license, following a police chase on the interstate.

Police initially responded to a 9-1-1 call before 4 p.m. on Monday of a robbery that took place at the AT&T store, 2584 E. State Road 44. Police determined that three suspects fled the scene on Interstate 74 based on hidden tracking devices that were in the stolen merchandise.

Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspects – three armed black males – and a silver SUV that was later learned to be stolen in an armed carjacking in Marion County, and officers gave pursuit.

An officer saw a vehicle that matched the description provided at Interstates 74 and 465 and followed it while the department notified the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County authorities. Other Shelbyville police officers provided backup during the pursuit.

The SUV accelerated away near Interstate 465 and Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis during the chase, which lasted several minutes on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

The suspects then fled on foot in the Iron Gate housing addition on Mitthoeffer Road with officers from Shelbyville IMPD and the Indiana State Police in pursuit.

Jones was caught during that pursuit. He remains in jail with no bond.

The other two remain at large.

The investigation continues.

No injuries were reported and there was no property damage during the chase.
