Tennis previews for Shelby County teams: 

-Waldron Mohawks

Head Coach: Ryan Berkemeier.

Top returnees: Shawn Cole, Parker Huffman, Dalen Williams, Ian Carter, Dakota Tillison.

Key losses: Cody Beal, Bryce Flippen.

Top newcomers: Mick Abbott (transfer from Southwestern), Lucas Mitchell, Sam Adkins, Josh Kellums.

What Waldron is focusing on now: Talking about and working on court awareness, shot making, footwork and teamwork with doubles teams.

Season outlook/goals: “We want to win county, conference and the sectional. We are looking to avenge losses to Seymour and Greensburg the first week of season. Of course, we would like to get past Shelbyville this year. Looking for a big season with a huge senior class and with Mick back.” - Ryan Berkemeier.

-Southwestern Spartans

Head Coach: Brian Ebersold.

Top returnees: Anthony Atwood, Decklan Pappano, Nick Robinson, Connor Rowe, Grant Emerick, Tristan Pappano, Caleb Pappano.

Key losses: Ryan Brockman.

Top newcomers: Matthew Clements.

What SW is focusing on now: Keeping positive and working on the fundamentals.

Season outlook/goals: "This year we are just focusing on the match in front of us. Though we all have targets set on a few things down the road.” - Brian Ebersold.

-Shelbyville Golden Bears

Head Coach: Ashley Comstock.

Top returnees: Luke Asher, Layton Stieneker, Matthew Bunton, Austin Perry, Alex Knarr, Austin Dwenger.

Key losses: Connor Phelps.

Top newcomers: Joel Justice, Aiden Asher. Justice transferred from Waldron last year and Asher is a freshman. There are 19 boys on the team this year.

What SHS is focusing on now: At doubles, SHS is working on communication and teamwork. At singles, the Golden Bears are still in the process of challenge matches but are focusing on perfecting the fundamentals.

Season outlook/goals: “We want to make sure we are getting better and improving each match. We want to win the sectional.” – Ashley Comstock

-Triton Central Tigers

Head Coach: Austin Hall.

Top returnees: Caleb Anderson, Blake Anderson, Ryan Shipley.

Key losses: Luke Sanders, Jordan Brandman.

Top newcomers: Griffin Sego, Avram Rund, Oliver Gearlds. All are freshmen and have the potential to fill varsity spots.

What TC is focusing on now: Developing skills and challenge matches.

Season outlook/goals: “Getting all the new kids comfortable with tennis, we will have 20-22 players. We want to have a better conference record this year and compete better at the conference tournament. We want to peak to play our best at county and the sectional.” – Austin Hall

-Morristown Yellow Jackets

Head Coach: Steve Gosnell.

Top returnees: Noah Klinger, Jacob Wood, Jerry Riley.

Key losses: Logan Theobald, Bryce Kirstein.

Top newcomers: Nick Owens, Grant Kessler, Shane Riley, Tyler Schonfeld.

What MT is focusing on now: With fresh faces in the program, Morristown is working on setting a varsity lineup.

Season outlook/goals: “We are just trying to get better each day with the goal of playing our best by the end of the season.” – Steve Gosnell
