Prep Report: Spartans earn conference win over Lancers

The Southwestern tennis team beat conference foe Edinburgh 4-1 on Thursday. The Spartans are now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play. 

At No. 1 singles, Southwestern’s Nick Robinson beat Brayden McManaway 6-4, 6-0, while Grant Emerick beat Travis Jones 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Spartans earned two wins in doubles play. At No. 1, Anthony Atwood and Decklan Pappano beat Preston Smith and Trever Moon 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Tristan and Caleb Pappano defeated Kolton Reed and Chase John 6-2, 6-0.

SHS falls to New Pal

The Shelbyville tennis team fell to New Palestine on Thursday, 2-3. 

The Golden Bears won both doubles matches. At No. 1, Luke Asher and Layton Stieneker won 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. At No. 2, Matthew Bunton and Austin Perry won 7-5, 7-5. 

SHS is 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. 

TC handles Scecina

The Triton Central tennis team beat Scecina 4-1 on Thursday. 

TC’s Jack Backer beat Michael Black 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Griffin Sego topped Quinn Schreiber 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles play at No. 1, Ryan Shipley and Alex Crouse beat Daniel Rudicel and Patrick Berg 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4). At No. 2, Wyatt Robey and Quintin Potts defeated Sean Barrow and Henry Carey 6-0, 6-3.

Mohawks win 4-1

The Waldron tennis team beat Trinity Lutheran on Thursday, 4-1. 

At No. 1 singles, Mick Abbott rolled 6-0, 6-0 over Jace Crockett. At No. 2 singles, Parker Huffman earned his eighth win of the season 6-1, 6-1 over Noah Voelker. Shawn Cole completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jerry Jiang at No. 3.

At No. 2 doubles, Dakota Tillison and Lucas Mitchell won 6-1, 6-1 over Luke Pollert and Nathan Voelker.

Yellow Jackets drop contest

The Morristown tennis team fell to Greenfield-Central 0-5 on Thursday. 

Boys Soccer

Livezey scores for MT

The Morristown soccer team fell to Greenwood Christian on Thursday, 3-1. 

For the Yellow Jackets, Matty Livezey scored the lone goal on a penalty kick.

SHS loses to Southport

The Shelbyville soccer team fell to Southport 4-1 on Thursday. 

The Golden Bears took an early lead when Nolan Parker rebounded a shot from Austin Gil for a score. 

SHS is 2-3-2 this season. 

Golf

SW gets past MT

The Southwestsern golf team beat Morristown 214-253 on Thursday. 

For the Spartans, Lily Kerber was medalist with a round of 47. Meridian Beal shot a 53, Maggie Correll finished with a 56 and Riliegh Smith and Lexi Wilkins both carded a 58. 

Hannah Everhart led the Yellow Jackets with a 60. Delaney Cornn shot a 61, McKinley Kile a 65 and Gabby Brown a 67.

SHS falls to CE

The Shelbyville golf team fell to Columbus East on Thursday, 192-212. 

For the Golden Bears, Madison Richards and Jill Linville both shot a 51 and Karaline Richards and Kaylee Tackett both finished with a 55.

TC breaks 200

The Triton Central golf team fell to Mt. Vernon on Thursday, 186-189. 

For the Tigers, Elizabeth Kemper paced the team with a 45. Megan Rowen carded a career-best 47 and Morgan Shilling also shot a 47. Kristin Goldman recorded her first varsity bogey in the effort.

Volleyball

Golden Bears fall in five

Shelbyville dropped a five-set contest to Greenwood Thursday at home. 

Senior setter Izzy Lewis reached 1,000 assists for her career in the loss. 

SHS is 5-3 this season. 

SW moves to 11-3

Southwestern beat Edinburgh 3-0 on Thursday (25-17, 25-11, 25-7). The Spartans improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the MHC.

WHS drops game to KT

The Waldron volleyball team fell to Knightstown on Thursday, 1-4. The Mohawks lost 17-25, 24-26, 25-18, 19-25 to move to 7-4 this season. 

Megan Bogemann was a standout on defense for WHS, finishing with 27 digs. 

Madalyn Hudnall and Mackenzie Shaw each led the offense with nine kills. Lauren Fischer added five kills. 

Fischer, Nichole Garner and Maddi Tyree all collected 13 digs. Tyree also had 21 assists.

Tigers edge Saints

Triton Central earned a 3-2 win over conference opponent Lutheran on Thursday. The Tigers won 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12. 

Amelia Shaw led TC with 12 kills. Maddy Brown had 10 kills and Maddy Beaver finished with nine. Emilee Bramlett added eight kills and six blocks. 

Julia Sanders had a team-high 26 digs, Maggie Schweitzer had 21 digs and Brown finished with 20 digs. 

Schweitzer also collected 43 assists in the win.
