Mildred Stevens


Mildred N. Stevens, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Heritage House.

Born June 20, 1933, in Meade County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Stewart Yates and Ilah D. (Frans) Yates. She married Thomas I. Stevens on Sept. 21, 1956, and he preceded her on March 28, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Boles-Jones (husband, Norman) of Fairland; sons, Russell E. Stevens of Salem, Arkansas, John S. Stevens (wife, Desiree) of Latham, Illinois; two brothers, Russell K. Yates of Syracuse, Indiana, and Darrell R. Yates of Seymour; two sisters, Phyllis Jean Motz of Shelbyville, and Janice K. Mabry of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren, Katharine Jones, Jonathan Jones, Jared Stevens, and Jordan Stevens; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Thomas, and previous spouse, Perry Boles.

Mrs. Stevens had lived in this area for three years, moving from Illinois. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Ind., and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #70. She had been employed for several years with Gail/Cil Developmental Services, and also had been a self-employed medical courier for 20 years.

Mildred enjoyed dancing and music, and watching and buying from QVC.

Funeral services will be noon on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Burial will be in Paul Hill Cemetery in St. Paul.

Friends may call on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Auxiliary, in care of the funeral home.
