Applications for scholarships during the Blue River Community Foundation’s summer scholarship cycle are now available.

High school students in Shelby County who are on track to graduate by June 30, 2021 can apply during the current cycle. Those applicants will be considered for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, which pays full tuition at an Indiana university or college, plus a stipend for books and equipment.

Applicants will also be considered for other general scholarship opportunities through the foundation, of which there are more than 100 that are annually awarded through the general scholarship program.

Each year, one Shelby County senior receives the Lilly Endowment scholarship and is surprised at his or her high school by representatives from the foundation.

The winner is selected by Independent Colleges of Indiana on behalf of Lilly and Blue River will be notified of the decision by Dec. 7.

That student will be notified by Dec. 18.

The scholarship provides full tuition and a $900 per year stipend.

Candidates must meet the minimum requirements for the Lilly program, which include:

Residing in Shelby County

Graduating by the end of June 2021 with a regionally-accredited Indiana high school

Intending to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited public or private college or university in this state

Demonstrate participating in community activities, showing leadership skills at school, in the community and/or extracurricular activities and committing to academics and the ability to succeed beyond high school

Finishing with a minimum 3.5 grade point average and a minimum 1100 score on the SAT or ACT equivalent

Financial need is not a determining factor but may be considered

More than 90 scholarship funds are administered by Blue River through donors.

The administered funds awarded 169 scholarships to 133 students worth more than $430,000.

Completed applications will make the senior eligible for all scholarships that they are eligible that are administered by the foundation.

Those funds can be found at

The deadline to apply is Sept. 1.
