“What we need is more space.”
Health Department Director Rob Lewis came before the commissioners Monday morning to ask permission to rent the Occasions Building (415 E. Hendricks Street) to set up a second COVID-19 vaccine clinic.
“As you know, we’re doing the vaccines,” he said. “The state has doubled it starting yesterday. We did give vaccines yesterday, during the holiday. Feb. 1 we’re going to be giving 600 vaccines a day.”
The department will meet that goal by giving vaccines in two rounds of 300.
“We found a place that will give us more parking, so we’ll open up two clinics: the one at the Health Department, and then the second one – we have a three month lease with an option to do monthly after that at Occasions,” he explained.
Lewis said the place was “ideal” because it was large enough to enforce social distancing.
The rent will cost $2,000 per month. Lewis said the state sent $46,000 when they issued the vaccine, and he would use this money to pay rent.
In other county government business, the commissioners accepted and approved the Requests For Approval (RFP) for the Pleasant View area.
The commissioners approved a commercial access permit for Duke Construction at 9075 N. Frontage Road. This will allow the company to place a gravel driveway on the property.
The commissioners approved for Smooth Stone Excavating to perform a road cut at 1200 South and 500 West.
Jodi Butts from the Recycling District presented the commissioners with a letter of intent to build a new building at the district’s transfer station, which they approved.
“It’s not binding, it’s just to start the ball rolling,” she said.
Lastly, the commissioners signed an interlocal agreement regarding use of dispatch.
“The City and County are combining the City and County dispatch area and this agreement turns the City employees over to the County starting January 1, 2022,” Auditor Amy Glackman said in an email. “This agreement states that, along with what each party is responsible for paying. The County adopted a new Public Safety Answering Point tax that takes effect this year 2021 and all dispatchers will be under one director (Jason Able) and they will be dispatching all together.”
