Wendell D. Hurst

Wendell Dwain Hurst, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Rosegate Village in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Shelby County, he was the son of Robert E. Hurst and Florence A. (Briley) Hurst. He married D. Joyce (Darland) Hurst on April 10, 1953, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children, Connie Jo Harris (husband, Jeff), of Greenfield, Ron Dwain Hurst (wife, Debbie), of Michigan, and Wendi C. Hurst (husband, Larry), of Colorado; brother, Doyle Hurst (wife, Doris), of Waldron; brother-in-law, Duane Lemmons, of Shelby County; caregiver, Brittany Hart ,of Greenfield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marlyn Lemmons.

Mr. Hurst was a lifetime resident of this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1947.

He had been a bus driver for Shelbyville Central Schools for 41 years, and a lifelong self-employed farmer.

He was a member of Christian Biblical Church of God, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with visitation there Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Harvey Weaver will officiate.

Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. A graveside military service will be conducted by a local veterans organization.

Memorial contributions can be made to Fisher House Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
