Mary Kay Pitts

Mary Kay Pitts, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at MHP Medical Center.

Born Aug. 22, 1946, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of William John and Ruth (Lee) John. She married Lynn Pitts on March 18, 1966, and he survives.

Other survivors include one son, Michael Pitts (partner, Elizabeth Darroch), of Noblesville; sisters, Carolyn Statler (husband, William), of Shelbyville, and Barbara Rogers (husband, Robert) of Shelbyville; and six nieces and nephews, Moonstar Rogers, Stephen Statler, Timothy Statler, Kristina Statler, Michele Howser and Laura Ingram.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.

Mrs. Pitts was a lifetime resident of Shelbyville. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1964 and from University of Indianapolis in 1987.

She had been a co-owner of Three Sisters Books & Gifts since 2002, and in 2008 the three sisters opened the Bookmark Coffee & Company.

She was a member of the former Manilla Christian Church.

She also was the leader of the Pitts Kitchen Dulcimer Band, a member of Shelby County Historical Society and was very active in the Shelby County Historical Society's Pioneer Fair, and served as choir director at Blue Ridge Christian Church for many years.

Mary Kay played the piano, organ, saxophone, lap and hammered dulcimer, harp and violin. She also gave lessons for the lap and hammered dulcimer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
