MHP hosts event for new moms and moms-to-be

By JOHN WALKER - jwalker@shelbynews.com

From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the hospital will hold its first health fair specifically for women expecting a child or planning to be mothers, and moms with small children.

Grandparents are also welcome.

The free “Bump 2 Baby and Beyond” health fair will be at MHP Medical Center, 2451 Intelliplex Drive.

Door prizes, free samples and giveaways will highlight the event, which also will feature 15 information booths.

MHP staff and representatives from community programs will be on hand to answer questions and discuss health and wellness during pregnancy and infant care.

Certified technicians from MHP’s Child Passenger Safety Program will staff one of the booths to show attendees how to secure a child in a car seat properly and answer questions.

There will be a raffle for a car seat at that health fair booth.

Another information booth will have details about MHP’s new “Baby and Me Tobacco Free” program to help pregnant women quit smoking and stay off tobacco.

Other MHP staff will have information about safe sleeping practices for infants.

Grandparents can benefit from the “Bump 2 Baby and Beyond” health fair if they’ll be caring for their grandkids while the parents are working or otherwise unavailable.

There is no cost to attend the event and no preregistration is required.
