John T. Thornburg, 77, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020, at MHP Medical Center.

Born on Dec. 23, 1942, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Charles Arthur Thornburg and Martha Jane (Weintraut) Thornburg. He married Rita Thornburg on May 21, 1966, and she survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Shannon Thornburg of Shelbyville, Cindy Nedderman (husband, John) of St. Paul, and Jeannette Leffew (husband, Scott) of Shelbyville; one brother, Don Thornburg of Clearwater, Florida; sister, Sue Berauer (husband, Robert) of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren, Brittany Ross (husband, Caleb), Cortney Engelhardt (husband, Garrett), Taylor Babbitt, Ashlee Isley (husband, Josh), Caleb Tackett, Christian Leffew, Jonathan Nedderman (wife, Alena), and Natasha Greene (husband Jason); and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Mike Thornburg.

Mr. Thornburg was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1961. He had been a machinist at Thornburg Machine for 30 years and with Freudenburg in Shelbyville, working for 28 years before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

John enjoyed life and had fun living it.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Robert Williams officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m., and then on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery in Decatur County.
