Lou Ann Franklin, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at MHP Medical Center.

Born Aug. 19, 1935, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Scott D. Pope and Stella (Bales) Pope. She married Joe E. Franklin on Nov. 30, 1962, and he survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Vicki Franklin of Shelbyville; brother, Jack Pope (wife, Pat) of Waldron; sister, Fay Iorio of Hebron, Indiana; grandchild, Jennessa Franklin-Saylor (spouse, Dusty) of Ft. Myers, Florida; four stepgrandchildren, Araceli, Leticia, Selena, Giovanni; and two step-great-grandchildren, Kingston and Elizabeth.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Franklin was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1953, and attended Ball State University for one year.

She was owner/operator of Pope’s Gambles Store in Waldron for many years, as well as a lifetime member of the Waldron United Methodist Church. She also held various board positions at the church, was a member of the choir, and was currently the Membership Secretary for the church, and a former member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors.

Lou Ann was an avid collector of clowns, having a collection of over 1,500 clowns. She was very devoted to her church and church activities, enjoyed playing cards with her friends, and loved spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at the Waldron United Methodist Church, 202 W. Washington St., Waldron, with Pastor David Galbraith officiating. Friends may call on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Waldron United Methodist Church or the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.
