Letters Policy

Letters to the editor must contain the writer's name, address and phone number and must be emailed to: shelbynews@shelbynews.com or brought into the office at 123 E. Washington St, Shelbyville, IN 46176. The Shelbyville News reserves the right to edit letters for style and content as well as length. Letters that contain libelous, obscene or other offensive material will not be published. Form letters and mass mailings will not be used. Letters of a political nature that advocate local candidates running for office or thank you letters concerning service by a business will not be used. All letters submitted are for consideration only. The Shelbyville News reserves the right to limit or reject submissions.

Correction Policy

NEWS: Any mistakes made in news or editorial content may be reported to Editor Jeff Brown by calling (317) 395-7523 or email to: jbrown@shelbynews.com. Editorial corrections are printed as soon as possible.

Submissions

The Shelbyville News welcomes submissions from its readers.

News items and community calendar events may be emailed to shelbynews@shelbynews.com or faxed to (317) 398-0194. Please allow at least 48 hours advance notice whenever possible.

Sports items should be sent to Sports editor Kris Mills at kmills@shelbynews.com, or faxed to (317) 398-0194, attention Sports Department.

Weddings, Engagements, Births and Anniversaries are published on Sunday and may be submitted by email to shelbynews@shelbynews.com or mailed or brought to our office at 123 E. Washington St, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Wedding, engagement and anniversary photos published cost $30. The following deadlines apply: For Sunday publication, information must be received by noon Thursday.

Obituaries must be submitted through a funeral director or mortuary. They must be emailed to shelbynews@shelbynews.com. Rates: First 100 words, free and includes name, age, hometown, date of death and funeral home in charge of services; Standard obituaries are $85 up to 250 words and 50 cents per word after 250; photos are an additional $25 charge per photo. Out-of-state obituaries must be pre-paid by credit card unless other arrangements are made. Deadline for weekday submission is 2:30 p.m. for publication the following day; For Sunday edition, deadline is 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Photo guidelines

The best way to submit photos is by email. Attach as Jpeg or TIFF, 200 dpi, no more than 1,200 pixels on max end, limit three images. Email general submissions to shelbynews@shelbynews.com. Email hard news (breaking news, fires, accidents, etc.) to shelbynews@shelbynews.com.

Photos may also be submitted on CD. Send Jpeg or TIFF files, 200 dpi, no more than 1,400 pixels on max end, limit 12 images (unless otherwise suggested).

If hard copy photographs are submitted, they must be original photographic prints. No photo copy reproductions or computer printouts will be accepted.

Please provide all appropriate text with submission. Identify persons or things in image clockwise, left to right (from bottom left if necessary). Provide contact person with telephone contact number and email (if available).
