The Triton Central tennis team celebrates after winning the Shelby County Tournament Saturday at Morristown. The Tigers beat Waldron 3-2 in the championship in a match that went down to the wire. With the score tied 2-2, it came down to the No. 2 doubles court with TC’s Emma Hutchinson and Alyssa Wheatley facing Waldron’s Josee Larrison and Keira Zeigler. Hutchinson and Wheatley held on for a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win in a highly competitive battle. At No. 1 singles, TC’s Brooklyn Schiffli beat Caroline Sheaffer 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Waldron was forced to forfeit (missing player). Waldron’s Nichole Garner beat Lelia Chougule 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The other point for WHS came at No. 1 doubles as Megan Bogemann and Mackenzie Shaw topped Kelsey McGuire and Ainsley Denton 6-3, 6-3. Earlier in the day, Triton Central beat Morristown 5-0 and Waldron beat Southwestern 5-0 to advance to the championship match.
