The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame will be inducting its 61st class on March 22, 2023. Included in the 19 member class is a former Shelbyville standout who went on to have a long career in athletics.

Ken Gunning, to put it simply, was “a great.” Over a decade before William Garrett won Shelbyville a state championship in 1947, Gunning was Golden Bear. Many people will tell you if it could be played, Gunning excelled at it. He was a multi-sport athlete, also dominating in baseball and track, but basketball always ranked above the rest.

Be on the lookout in a future edition of The Shelbyville News for what it was like to play under Gunning at Connersville.
